Dikutip dari akun X resmi BMKG @infoBMKG, gempa tersebut berpusat di darat, 17 kilometer barat daya Tapanuli Utara. Menurut informasi BMKG, getaran gempa dirasakan (MMI III) di Tapanuli Tengah dan MMI II-III di Gunungsitoli.
